SHORTER PROGRAMS
OBJECTIVES OF THE SPRING AND FALL PROGRAMS
The main objectives of this course are to:

Boost students’ Spanish language skills.

Enhance students’ awareness and knowledge related to the Spanish civilization in all aspects.

Enhance students’ overall capacity of integration in a cross-cultural experience.
-
Give the students the possibility of specializing in highly important aspects related to European Institutions and Policies, Spanish civilization, Literature and Cinema and Arabic heritage and legacy.
-
Reinforce the classes and give students a practical experience through an internship in a Spanish company or volunteer work.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE
This semester course includes a Spanish language course of 180 contact hours with two additional specialization modules of 45 hours each, of which students can choose two out of four options: European policies and Institutions/ Literature & Cinema/ Arabic heritage / Spanish for specific purposes.
The third essential component of this semester program consists of either an internship in a Spanish company or volunteer work, depending on the student’s objectives and motivations.
The program includes the following extracurricular activities and field trips:
- Orientation walk on the first Monday.
- 4 weekly optional classes (topics include history of art, phonetics, Spanish cinema, Spanish and Andalusian cuisine and South American Spanish/Literature).
- One visit to monuments/exhibition per week (Cathedral and Giralda, Lebrija Mansion, Casa de Pilatos, Royal Palaces, Jewish quarter, Indian Archives).
- One half day visit to a company.
- Two full day excursions (Cordoba, Ronda, Cadiz/Jerez, Antequera, Itálica).
STRUCTURE, DATES AND OTHER DETAILS
- Total duration of the program: 14 weeks.
- Starting dates: 19.1.2009 (Spring semester) 1.9.2009 (Fall semester).
- 9 weeks of General Spanish, total 180 hours.
- Two specialized modules (4 weeks each), total 45 hours each to be selected out of four options.
- 5 weeks of internship in a Spanish company or volunteer work.
- Transferable credits: 18.

CREDITS
This program is equivalent to 18 credits to be transferred through CLIC partner; Benedictine College. The transfer fees of 1.100 US $ are not included in the price.

The total immersion method of study produces a degree of fluency that cannot be matched in the typical state-side classroom setting. Students returning from this program will have benefited from this cross cultural awareness which will positively reflect on the rest of their studies.
